How about some more Al?

Very nice. Bourbon Street isn’t that far away from me. Today it’s a shallow reflection of what it once was.

Viva la Mexico! Or something like that, right?

Something like that.

That’s a hot mix, as in all the mics sound jacked up, especially the double bass. I’ve always like Al Hirt, even if his arrangements were a tad on the cheddar cheese side. A great, powerful player with a unique sound. And that band is no slouch either.

I’ve never been to Bourbon Street, but I find the music from its peak fascinating.

Most of the releases after his passing seem to be poorly remastered, but those seem to be the only ones online with decent sound quality.
I was given an Al Hirt CD back when I played trumpet in grade school, and rediscovered his music a couple of years ago. I’m still impressed at what he and his band were capable of.

Since you guys are enjoying a bit of brass, perhaps you will appreciate something a bit more classical.

I always enjoyed the big band sound. Glenn Miller Orchestra is among my favorites.

I play trumpet professionally, and Al Hirt has always been a favorite. Way back in the day, I had a cassette of Honey in the Horn that I listened to quite often. I’m not a jazz player at all, but I loved the size of his sound. I’m also a Harry James fan, though his music is getting pretty dated.

That’s cool! I played trumpet through high school, but never near a professional level. I also was the bugler in Boy Scouts. I haven’t played in a while, but now I kind of want to find the time to get my trumpet out again.
Al Hirt (and Herb Alpert) was my go to inspiration.
